I've been playing this game without trouble for a few days now. Unfortunately, this morning I ran into some unexpected problems. Upon starting the game, it immediately threw me back to the desktop. Funny thing is, I can still play it in other user acounts (XP), but can't load my profile there. :(

I'm playing it too, or better, i was.... i expected a little more from the game, can't say i'm not dissapointed. I've reached the level where you have to make sure one of your commanders makes it safe to the other side of the map, into some town, straight through the Helvetians territory. I never had any problems with crashing though. Did you check for a patch ?

Anyway, i thought the battles were a bit lame, and the CPU is way too strong, it keeps pumping out enemy squads from those villages, while all i got is a few cohorts, with which you have to go all the way.

I'm doing that mission right now. It seems a bit hard at first, but once you captured the first village you've all but won. I had very little trouble capturing the second one after that, although ambushes with ranged unites will continue to test your patience.

I've captured the first village, but it cost me almost my entire legion that i started with. You can slowly build your forces up again by recruiting from the locals, but the other villages don't leave you alone in the meantime. perhaps i'm playing on a too high difficultylevel, so far i had to do that same level three times over.

I don't know what version you have, but there's a version 1.4 patch available that fixes some bugs, perhaps if fixes yours as well. And add a no cd patch to it. The crashing might be caused by a scratch on the cd. I had the same problem with NBA 2004. After installing a no cd patch, the problem was gone. ;)

I'm running 1.4 as well. The CD should be fine, as the game runs without trouble for the various other user acounts.

Well, try a no cd patch anyway, it couldn't hurt. See what happens.

LOL All that talk about the game made me feel like picking it up where i left off. I finally finished that level with the Helvetians. If you thought that was a tough nut to crack, then just wait until the next one.

You're in Gaulle now, and there's an uprising by some Belgian tribe. You have to defend your fortress, and hold on for 20 minutes to win this level. First attempt i managed to hold on for 6 minutes. :D

Be sure to place your archers in the towers. They are much harder to hit that way. Also, pull your Cavalry back within the walls. That way, you can use them if the enemy forces a breakthrough. I also placed several units of Pikemen before the gate, in stationary formation. Besides that, I had my infantry build two ballistas, which succesfully managed to shoot almost everything that came through the gate. And don't forget that you can build additional troops in the barracks

Made it. :D

I kept making the mistake of charging at them when they attacked, their archers hidden in the woods took out my cavalry every time. The last time i simply kept recruiting archers and legionairs, and manned the walls and towers. Finally i could stop the attack.

The next level looks like a total bitch though, my forces are divided, and i have to conquer several Germanic towns, and make sure their leaders don't escape.

I'm working on that mission myself at the moment. Not nearly as hard as the second mission, though. I had little trouble snatching the first two villages with my infantry, and uniting them with the Cavalry in the middle.
