I've played Morrowind, all Baldur's Gates games, IceWind Dale 1-2, Wizardry 8, Might and Magic series, etc... but I'm finding myself yearing for one based in a sci-fi world. Fantasy is getting boring for me. Are there any out there besides Fallout 1 and 2? Last sci-fi rpg that i've played was Mega-Traveler (a lot of ppl might be too young to remember that one) which was awesome. I also remember playing Buck Rogers (SSI Gold Box game) which I loved.
So if someone could suggest some sci-fi rpgs I'd appreciate it.

Hmm... System Shock 2 maybe, Deus Ex is along the same lines, Freelancer, X2-The Threat, KotOR, The Fall(Fallout in 3D) and STALKER.. they are rare, but good. Soon to be more...

Deus Ex the original is better than Deus Ex 2. Freelancer not so much, more of a flight sim with RPing elements. KotOR for sure. Check out the SQ games :D

There were two SSI goldbox Buck Rogers games to my knowledge made:
Countdown to Doomsday (which I played and conquered on my trusty ol' C64!)
and the Matrix Cubed - which I have on PC, but have yet to finish. Good to know that there's another fan of these great games out there!

There's also a very old basic Bards Tale style of menu system for a sci fi rpg called Star Command I think. Mars Saga is another title from years ago, although I'm not sure if it is available for anything other than C64! :D

You could always head to the underdogs or Mobygames for more ideas on scfi rpgs.

But why not go retro and relive the days of old now that you've come so far with modern games?

oh yeah! i completely forgot about system shock 2. in fact, i think i might have it laying around here somewhere.
as for deus ex, i tried playing it but i just didn't like it. it felt more like an over-sophisticated first person shooter.
freelancer isn't much of an rpg but it is great flight sim that's as close to an rpg as one can get. it is much like privateer which i also liked.
now Kotor was/is good, fun even. still, it didn't completely satisfy my want for a sci-fi rpg. for me, Kotor wasn't very flexible. It was also about becoming a Jedi which isn't bad, but still....

anyway, i don't mean to sound fussy but there still aren't any good sci-fi rpg's and their numbers are fractional compared to the rpgs based in a fantasy world.

CerebroDragon: I was only able to get my dirty paws on Countdown to Doomsday and I had a very fun time playing it. I wish someone would do a remake of it.

If wonder if Bioware could make sci-fi rpg using the Never Winter Nights game engine. hmmm....

There is Septera Core. That's a mix science-fiction and fantasy.

The Fall - Last Days fo Gaia looks very promising. Watch the 5 minute animation, has cool music and you see the game engine, mechanincs and anims.

Final Fantasy 7 and 8 for PC. It's almost the same as Septerra Core.

Riftmaker 11-02-2004 02:04 PM

Septerra Core = FF for PC. It's awesome, long, and flipping hard. Character advancement is like FF.

FF8 for PC sucks hard. Make sure you check http://www.pcgamer.com for the review of ANY port before buying it.
