In general, how would I get my old DOS or Win95 games to work properly nowadays? Do I need specific programs or can I just doubleclick on the exe file and have the game play as normal?
|
If the game came out before 1998 it's pretty likely to work as is, if it's for DOS you should get DosBox and the D-fend gui for it, and if it's a Windows game before 1998 try Compatibility mode in XP...

If you are running XP then use Dosbox
I actually started playing through Day of the tentacle recently, and its great to play some of my old favourites. |
Hehe, I started playing UFO, Enemy Unknown a short while ago, and I have to say, it's still the best game in my collection.
And yes, as both of the above stated, dosbox is the way to go if you can't make the game run on its' own. If you guys are looking for some other oldies and goodies, I can recommend www.abandonia.com, that place is littered with a lot of the classics. (If abandonware is stretching the forum rules, mods please remove the link) |
instead of dosbox for day of the tentacle and other lucasarts games, use scummvm from www.scummvm.org
