I am going to try to solo a kensai all the way through (SoA and Tob.) I have 5 stars in axe and 2 in dualwielding. Does this sound good?

everybody does kensai! You should try sumthin a little more challenging, or original. But your proficencies sound good so i say go for it |

Well i've never actually played kensai, im doing a solo sorcerer right now...But as my beloved, Stile, said: "Get them to level 2 for the proficiency slots, then dual them into a mage, and b4 u know it ur a sword weilding mage" |
Ive done a pure Kensai, its tough but doable. Its a pity most people assume you will duel but its more fun not to. Anyway tips.
1. Surviving is a case of the right items at the right time, arrows coming you put on your cloak of displacement and those boots, if its a guy with a hammer you put on the girdle of bluntness. You can get good AC if you match the items to what you are getting attacked with. 2. More item talk, the summon things like that spider statue is good for fighting mages, they go into timestop and waste their best spells on it. 3. More Item stuff, invisability potions. Use them a lot, you want to explode in the middle of your enemies, take them unawares, hack someone to bits and dissapear, that cloak of the thise guys in walkeens promenade will negate any attempts to find you. 4. Dont go for axes, take longswords, far more variety. First the blade of roses for the charisma bonus and the daystar for its undead stomping values. Other longswords have more abilities like silence. 5. Put 3 in duel wielding, it will give another +2 to your offhand thaco while the fifth star in the weapon will only give you +1 to damage. |
I have personally never soloed a Kensai :( but I do think that from a time I played a bit of the way through the game with one that they arent the most challenging classes to use...

whats so cool about kensai ive never played that class is it so good ?

Kensai are fun, but cannot use many of the best items in the game. No Red Dragon Scale, no Bracers of Blinding Strike, no non-Ioun Stone helmets. they are kinda weak v. mages, with no inherent MR, and no melee capability (even darts!) I think that a beserker would be more fun if you aren't going to dual him, but that's just my opinion.

Yes but Kensai get massive to hit and damage bonuses, and many attacks. My guy right now is level 17 with 5 stars in axe, 3 in dual, and 1 in flail. He gets five attacks per round, and with improved haste gets 9 attacks per round. No armor doesn't seem to be much of a problem. Right now my armor class is 0 and I dont seem to be getting hit more often than my ranger who was -11. For no missle weapons all you have to do is grab azuredge, and you have a great throwing axe. Once you throw in boots of speed, kensai's get to you so fast and hack you into bits that you wont be missing the darts and slings. :D
