I'm just wondering if anyone else here has played through SoA with a Wizardslayer. I did, and I found many of the mages (including Irenicus) to be fairly easy to defeat (especially compared to some stories I've read here).

I've found that a lot of people bash Wizardslayers for some reason, yet I have found that they are incredibly effective in this mage-oriented game.

I've tried the Wizardslayer once, but I didnt like it so much. Though it actualy did go easier to defeat Mages.

Wizard-slayers certainly are reasonably tough. The magic resistance you get is very useful in the game (given that many of the fights involve mages). I still think the cons outweigh the pros when considering this class though. I often use many different magic items, and I don't think I could go without them.

i think i will try it your way the next time
i'm up to chapter 5 by now and didn't use much spells anyway
is it really that big a difference ?
and can you still use the type of swords that warriors can ?

Johnny, the Wizardslayer is a Fighter-kit, and can therefor use most weapons as the normal Fighter can. It is not a kit that can cast spells, they are just simply better vs Mages in battles then the regular Fighters.
Plus that they have good resistances. ;)

thanks sir Exxon, you're the man

I am also playing a Wizard Slayer and - personally - I think the class ROCKS!! I have added some out-of-game items that supplement his class, but it is perfectly do-able with items you find within the game.

Wizard Slayers can use any armor or weapon. They can also use gauntlets or boots, but NOT girdles, rings, or cloaks (go figure).

I agree that it wouldn't be the best class to solo....but I feel it is the BEST straight fighter kit available.

The increasing Magic Resistance and the ability to cause Miscast Magic with successful attacks makes short work of most wizards.

Oh Yeah, one other thing......

What are the requirements for making a Wizardslayer/Mage?

I don't remember who I was talking to about this, someone here on this forum, but my standing involving Wizard slayers is that mages are weak in the first place, when it comes to fighting. If you can hit them, they'll go down fast anyway... it isn't like you need a wizard slayer or anything to take a mage down.

The magic resistance is pretty good, I'll admit... but still, isn't it only like +1% every level, right? It isn't too much... gets to be a lot in TOB though, I'll admit.

One thing I'm curious about is if you hit a mage with stoneskin or something... you know the Celestial Fury? Well, if you hit a mage with it, and they have stoneskin, they'll still be stunned. If you're a wizard slayer, and you hit a mage with something like that, or a mirror image, does it automatically give them the miscast magic? Or do you really have to connect?

Alexander 04-16-2002 09:12 PM

You don't have to connect - they can have a mirror image, or stone skin, or whatever - I remember when Irenicus threw up this shield (forget what it was called), yet I still caused him to miscast magic.

At least, I think. I haven't played the game in months (I'm getting it mailed back to me in a couple of days), so my memory may be partly cloudy.

Oh, and thank you for welcoming me. :D
