Hello all. I missed the Staff of the Magi, and as I am a Necromancer, I'd like to get it. I guess you have to complete the mage quest?(that's what I heard.)

I'm in the middle of chapter 6 so I'm quite sure I passed it up, but I'd like to go back and get it even through an earlier save if necessary. Can someone tell me where it is and how to get it? Thanks.

Get yourself a rogue stone, go the Bridge district and enter one of the doorways in the southern most part of the map
by the waterfront).
Remember to disarm the trap and be prepared for a tough fight.

this is one of the toughest fights in the entire game. More so even than Irenicus himself, in my opinion. MAKE SURE to save it before entering, because the autosave destroys the rogue stone before you enter, leaving you stranded outside unless you reload a real save.

you WILL lose this fight a few times before developing a strategy. But you are on chp6, so it might be a bit easier for you.

Actually, it is the possesion of a female wizard

By the way, Darkness555, the staff availible in the Wizard-stronghold is called the Staff of Power. It is not as good as Staff of Magi, and to get it you must kill your three aprentices. And even then, you are not garantueed to get it.

and, if you have killed any of your apprentices so far, they all die AND you NEVER get the staff of power. but the ring of wizardry is a better choice then anyway.

Thanks guys, but some things about what you guys said though, it was a tough fight, but I only had to do it twice(first time I got caught off guard, didn't expect all of that). Second time I went in and kicked their butts proper. I used the autoload though. Someone said you couldn't do that, it destroys the rogue stone, worked fine for me when I did.

After powering everyone up defensively, I basically time stopped with my main necromancer character right off the bat and kept time stopping to prevent the lich from getting it off, then when my demon was summoned, and they were worn down, I let the rest of my party especially my custom Paladin with Carsomyr +5 and Minsc with the Vorpal Sword do the work(both with two-handed sword skills upgraded to master, Minsc was doing close to 50 damage and killing people right off). Jahiera and Imoen even chipped in too.

I already had the staff of power from my apprentices, thanks, but I wanted the Magi staff, better atributes plus protection from evil so I don't have to worry when casting Gate. Thanks again guys, got a cool staff now. Best of luck to ya...

Darkness-
Make sure to check the Protection from Evil on the staff before using it for a serious casting. IIRC, the staff (depending on what version of the game and what patches and stuff you have installed) can be buggy in that area...and gating in a Pit Fiend only to have it turn would not be so much fun in a big battle.

make sure you download the Baldurdash patch for your type of game (SoA/ToB) to fix the protection from evil thing, and Beholder Anti-Magic Rays and a few other things being able to dispel the AC bonus, invisibility, and saving throws bonuses.
