You know there is less and less of things that make us cheerful and happy and life. Maybe its just me and some other members who have some depression at times.
But lets here it from those who have happiness ;) What are the things that you make you happy? Or are they not always things? |

That's not true Durwyn, most people get depressed from time to time. It's not just *us*.
There are lots of things that can make me happy. I get happy whenever there's something that makes me smile or laugh, when I accomplish something, when I get a good grade, when I give a compliment and get a reaction, or get a compliment, when I get a date. There's way to many things to list. |
Durwyn, everbody suffers from time to time with depression. The important thing is to make sure it's a visitor, and doesn't become the landlord of the house where your soul resides.
For myself, I find many things can make me happy: Really enjoying a new CD by a composer I've never heard of, before (and in all honesty, that's pretty rare); Watching my wife laugh, or simply enjoy herself; Finding a new, useful idea; Correcting a misimpression; Being riotously creative; Reading a good, involving book; Going for a long, contemplative walk, with a nice view; Practicing my Wicca religion, without interference; Playing a fun computer game; Being able to breathe (hey, as a severe asthmatic, you don't get too many chances ;) ); Good sex, which means we both enjoy it tremendously. :D [ 01-22-2002: Message edited by: fable ]
|
I think you have to find happiness within yourself. There is no one thing that can give it to you. It's all psychological and happiness/sadness is just a state of mind. You should be able to make yourself happy, in my view ;)

I'd have to agree with fable on several points ;) and add a few (to start):
When my beloved hubby comes home at night from a long day away at work When one of the kids actually does something without being told to multiple times When aforementioned kids come up and say "I love you mom" for no apparent reason. When I get an e-mail, pm, or AIM from a friend When hubby gives me a kiss...just because Lots of little things can brighten a day.....if we recognize them for the tiny treasures they are. |
I agree with Arledrian, hapiness comes, for the biggest part, from within. But it usually does require to be 'triggered' by things, events that happen.
The things that really make one happy are more often than not very small things: listening to good music, spending time with friends, making an achievement. |
Well I found out today two major things that will make any person happy, and thats a proven fact I believe hehe.
1) Working out at Gym will make you happy. Working out releases a special chemical through your body that gives you confidence and a good attitude towards everything else. 2) Cleaning. And I did notice whenever cleaning my house I get a feel or peacfulness and calm in my soul so to speak. Sorta sorting everything out in your room making it look nice will make you feel good . |
Holding someone you love with all your heart (my gf)
Finishing a long project and being recognized for all the labor that was put into it. Fishing, in the summer on a lake near home, just lying there basking in shade, realizing ther's no where in the world that I'd rather be. Shooting a 40 out of 40 at the range with my rifle Having my old dog curl up in my lap, or by my feet. Watching a puppy play with afore mentioned old dog (he's not the greatest sport about some things) |

Sure, it's propulsive, but it's about as creative as the drip from a loose water pipe. ;) Give me a CD of hot salsa, 30's Count Basie, or Baroque concerti, anyday. :D |
