Paul Hill, a former minister who gunned down an abortion doctor, said he feels no remorse and suggested the state will be making him a martyr when he becomes the first person executed in the United States for anti-abortion violence.

Thoughts on his execution. There are a few things of interest here, how often does Florida execute people? why this guy and not others? Is there a difference between a Christian fanatic and a Muslim one? They seem the same to me. How many fanatics are there in North American Society because this guy isn't the first so called Christian to attack abortion clinics or shoot people based on his beliefs.

I wonder if he, as a pro-lifer, is pro-death penalty???

I guess it doesn't matter considering he is a murderer regardless..

As for how often Florida executes, I don't have figures -- but I do know they are very fond of "Old Sparky" down there. As for martyrdom, I reckon this guys got one of them thar versions of the bible that was revised by the same outfit that revised Bin Laden's copy of the Koran. ;)

Hey, I got an alternative to the death penalty. Commute all death penalties and put all death row inmates to work at hard labor. Let 'em build roads. Once every 12 mos, schedule a "retributive pain therapy" session where you invite the cops who arrest Rodney King over to beat them within an inch of their life -- truly injurious stuff. Then, give them 3 mos. in a hospital to heal, then back to hard labor, and begin the cycle over again. :D That would be SOOOO COOL. For added social good, each beatings session can be attended by up to 3 family members of the victims. Bladed weapons of less than 3 inches should be allowed, too. :D

Okay, enough daydreaming.... back to work.

Good idea! Put that up on paper, I'm calling pay-per view to offer them the publication rights, we'll make a fortune... ;)

I really hate it when people do things like that and make the headlines. I'm a very religious woman who won't tell someone how the MUST do things regarding abortions, but would offer my opinion and reasons. Shooting another human being or killing another human being and claiming it's in the name of God or to avenge/save unborn lives... well it's sick, pure and simple. And hardly Christian!

Sadly, I hope this guy gets his due punishment, but wish it were life in prison so he could sit and while away the hours knowing what he did took away his freedom to ever attempt such things again and be an example to any other crackpot who thinks of doing what he did. :(

I don't think that there is irony in there.
He believes that abortion is murder - and that therefore those who carry out abortions are effectively 'serial killers'. Thus in his mind, by killing this doctor he save hundreds, possibly thousands of lives. And for him, there really was no other way 'peaceful/non-lethal' way of stopping this 'murderer' - terminal force was the only option.

It's the old, "If you could have killed Hitler in 1920 you could have saved millions of lives" argument...

He believed that those foetuses were live human beings - the same as a new born baby: you will never convince him of it otherwise. To the rest of us, the reverse is true - and therefore we condemn him.

But put yourself in his shoes for a hypothetical instant. Supposing that you knew of someone who was killing new-born babies on mass and the law was powerless or unable to prevent the killing. Would you have any hesitation in pulling the trigger if the opportunity arose?

True_Moose 09-03-2003 09:23 PM

And you should be willing to accept the consequences, also. He knew the consequences when he pulled that trigger. Even if he didn't, ignorance of the law is not an excuse. If he felt that strongly to take action, by God he's going to pay the consequences for that action too.

If I believed someone was massacreing (spl?) children (which I don't believe the doctor was, but that's another thread ;) ), I would try to stop him any way I knew how, though I very much doubt I would be able to kill a married doctor. Anyways, I would also be prepared to face the consequences. Simple: you kill someone, you get punished in return. Tit-tat.

I like your idea, TL. One addition: once every month, these criminals are forced to shower in the same area as lifers. ;)

Okay, i'll try putting myself in his shoes for a moment....

*ping ping tralali tralala prrrrt peeeep tootoot*

Nope, doesn't make any sense.... fry his ass quickly. :D

Having grown yp in Florida yes we are very fond of "Old Sparky", we're also fond of "Ole Yeller" here Bama. "You do the crime you do the time." or in this case you ride "Old Sparky"
No this guy was the second(edit) IIRC, there were 2 differant abortion shootings in Pensacola, Florida. The first one the killer shot and killed at 2 differant abortion clinics on the same day. A couple of months later there was another shooting at the same clinic as the first shooting IIRC. There has been a TOTAL of 4 or 5 abortion clinic/doctor shootings in the USA.
2 in Pensacola, Florida 1991 or 1992 (my memory ain't what it used to be)
1 in upstate NY IIRC (Doctor shot in his home)1996?
1 in Mass. or Penn.(I can't recall off hand) (Man killed Doctor[edit] shot 2 receptionist at the doctors office that preformed an abortion on his Girlfriend killing his child IIRC)1997?
It seems to me there was one in Virginia but I may have that one mixxed up with the one where the guy killed the doctor that preformed the abortion on his Girlfriend, he may have lived in Virginia, but "HALE" you know when the press gets their teeth into a story the run it into the ground. Anybody remember the shark attacks in Florida? The Smart girl kidnaping? The Church burnings? The Leavy girl? Years later when the facts can be looked at, really looked at there was no signifcant rise in shark attacks, children kidnaped, or churches being burnt, and "Hale" I know more about Gary Condit then anybody needs or wants to know.If you listen to the *cough* Liberal *cough* News, they make it sound like there are abortion clinic shootings all the time. What goes on all the time is people protesting at the abortion clinics, exercising their right to protest. But last time I looked protesting does not equal murder. But then I guess that depends on where you stand on the issue.

AND there has been 1, yes, 1 abortion clinic bombing resulting in death.1999? Birmingham, Alabama (Eric Scott Rudolf... What was that Mel Gibson said about assasins in "Consperacy Theory"?)

(EDIT) reread the story they list ALL 4 killings sure sounds like a crime wave to me.
