This sort of thing always disappoints me! Talking about Robert F. Kennedy in the National Post - the great enviro-defender telling Torontonians what they should be doing with their waterfront....

"If reporters had probed deeper, they might have noticed the Kennedy halo is tarnished with hypocrisy. In Massachusetts, he is fiercely fighting the construction of wind turbines in Nantucket Sound, playground of the playboy Kennedys.

The Cape Wind project would be North America's biggest clean renewable energy project, eventually providing 75% of the electrical needs of the Cape Cod region. Mr. Kennedy doesn't like the idea because the 130 wind turbines will ruin the views from his seaside mansion. He may be a tree hugger elsewhere, but when it comes to windmills in the waves, his answer is a definite NIMBY (Not In My Backyard.)"

Don't ya just love the hypocrisy!!! Up with the wind turbines!!!

This is the environmental friend who tells everyone they must drive high mileage death traps, yet he tools around in private jets. Environmentaly safe energy generaters like winmills are only acceptable when the said machines are located where only the poor can see them, not the ruling class know-it-alls like the Kennedy family or Walter Cronkite.

But then that has always been the case with any kind of energy generation. They are pretty much exclusively in areas that are poor and can not mount the challange to stopping the project in their backyard.

The windmills are to be located almost 5 miles out at sea.

"If built as now proposed, the closest the turbines would come to land would be 4.7 miles from Point Gammon in Yarmouth, instead of 4.1 miles."

How much of a view does Kennedy need?

Well, I read the article and to me it seems more people than just Kennedy are opposed to putting the windmills in the proposed location. Considering Kennedy and others say they do support wind energy jut not in that place makes wonder if hypocrisy is a correct charge.

Yepp! Let's count power plants in luxurious neighborhoods shall we. :D

Anyway I'm not too sure about raising windmills everywhere. From what I can tell they aren't that effective...

yeah it's more a case of NIMBYism. Just like people that are all for Nuclear planets don't want one upwind from them. Or how the folks that own coal power plants don't live next them.
