I just started BG2 with TOB installed and patched. My PC is a bard. While still in Irenicus' dungeon I had him cast find familliar, which resulted El Gato. Mostly el gato follows but when I realised after I got Yoshimo el gato did NOT follow me through the portal. I went back found el gato sitting on other side of portal. Bad el gato, bad!! I highlighted all and entered portal. Otherside, no el gato. Bad el gato, bad!! I removed Yoshimo who went left completly and back thorugh Portal, got el gato, and entered portal. Otherside, no el gato. Bad el gato, bad!! ARGH!!
Shut down computer. restarted. Same thing. Reintalled patch, with yoshimo, went back and got el gato, otherside of portal, el gato returns. YAY El Gato, YAY!

My question is this, did the patch fix it, or did I just get lucky? And will it happen again???

It was prob a bug, the game does that sometimes. I was in dungeon and jahiera kept saying the same thing to me over and over and over about 50 times lol. i was about to kill him then res her but she stopped just in time [img]smile.gif[/img] lol

Of course, you could just abandon your Familiar and settle for 12 more hitpoints.....my Evil Cleric/Mage did this, my Quasit is a little 'miscellaneous object' sitting on the floor of the Council of Six building, while I'm in my Pocket Plane.....la la la la la....

Can't you just put El Gato in your pack when you go through portals? My familiar practically LIVES in my pack

I posted this here and in another forum. Some one in the other forum suggested just that. Only I didn't know how to get Bad El Gato into my pocket. Some one later replied about talking to El Gato, which I didn't want to do becuase El Gato was being bad. The bing, light goes on and best punishment for el gato is pack.

By the by, how does one feed el gato if el gato is hungry and says so while chatting?

To get back to your original question: Yup this was one of the mayor bugs that was fixed by the patch, It shouldn't happen anymore. I had a lot of trouble getting my familiar "Grimlock" (named after my best friends favourite character :D ) back from dream sequences where he would stay with Irenicus. (traitor) But since I installed the patch it hasn't happened anymore.
Also about feeding, I heard Jan Jansen feeds Boo with crackers, so maybe he can babysit El Gato too [img]smile.gif[/img]

Hmm, El Gato's pet thanks you for the advice. As to Jan feedin El Gato, well, that would be hard considering I told the police on him.. I don't like gnomes....

Sorry to say this, but the only way to get your familiar in your backpack is by talking to him. There is a dialogue option on order to pick him up. ;)
