If Condoleeza Rice gets her way, the world will learn this lesson anew. The new Secretary of State is reportedly pursuing a proposal to raise money for danegeld, er, that is, a pension fund for jihad terrorists who promise to stop murdering people. Israel National News states that Rice “has proposed a $100 monthly allowance to terrorists who agree to lay down their arms and retire or find another profession. The money would be part of a $350 million package deal announced by U.S. President George Bush this past week. The Bush administration suggested that Congress consent to send $41 million immediately for an ‘immediate impact in support of democratic transition.’… Rice, about to pay her first visit to the Middle East in her new position as successor to Colin Powell, wants part of the money to go directly to ‘retired’ terrorists. Speaking between visits to European countries, she proposed a pension fund for at least 1,000 terrorists.” The International Herald Tribune also spoke of plans for “retirement benefits for members of Palestinian militias.”

For this, Miss Rice deserves the "dumbass of the week" award.

And the madness of King George continues.
I used to wonder why so much of the world considered Americans to be ignorant of history and culture outside of our own borders. This neatly answers that question.
It's truly amazing how naive people can be.

As much as I want something (anything) to be found to stop the violence, I think this is one idea that should never have been run up the flag pole, let alone actually get saluted.

If the outcome is a success then I will stand up and give Condi and King George my well deserved apologies, but it looks more likely to fund more attacks than it stops.

I can't see either side of politics being happy with this. If I was an American I would be furious that my tax dollars were being used as either a pension plan for terrorist scum or to fund terrorist attacks upon Americans and Israeliis.

Heh, this could backfire in so many ways.

100 dollar a month? I think every student in the western world will be turning him or herself in. ;)

Wow Dav, for once you're not attacking the source of the article? I'm truly surprised.

Gee thanks for the thinly veiled ummm "compliment" dude - happy to contribute to your amazement.

Tell me though - what precisely was I meant to find objectionable or biased in this particular article Morgie? It seemed rather sensible and urbane to me. I judge articles on the extent of bias and frothing that the writer is generating. If it looks like he treats the subject objectively then I focus on the arguments. If a writer is only pushing his own petty fears, pet hates, and avarice then I admit I tune off and concentrate a little more on what his agenda is for being such a smeghead.

Wow - on a seperate topic, how come my delete button won't work while I am typing this reply, yet works perfectly well in other windows - that is eerie indeed???

Paying terrorists to retire is an acknowledgment that terrorism works akin to what happened in Spain during their elections.
