I shall relate a RL story for you on that score:

friend of a friend got utterly drunk. he's a hard man. beat guiy at pool and won the money

That guy and 2 mates rushed him outside pub and slashed him on throat etc (btw, 3 separate uts on a person and they go into shock - just FYI)

Only reason he was still ALIVE was because he was too drunk to feel pain
