Have you ever been ill for a longer period of time, say several months or years? What was it like? How did you deal with it? How did you respond to medicationes? Could you still function normally in some ways? Did you ever get fully restored?

I'm not asking for "my dad died of cancer" replies, I want to hear first-hand stories of long-time illness and coping with it. Naturally, I have a reason for asking. Actual details may of course be omitted by your choice. So let us see how you are!!

I was sick for a month with salmonella when I was three...I was in hospital and all i can really remember is feeling really lonely and screaming my head off when a doctor tried to put a needle in the back of my hand

not quite so long as that
but i had for about 3 weeks a condition in my lungs that was making them stick together
the first week i thought, the pain...the pain..why do i have a pain in my chest; when i breath in deeply it hurts like someones got a dagger there, but its just a light pain if i breath shallowly; it was agony really; the only way to deal with it is to distract your mind from the pain for as long as possible.
The distractions i used were games naturally (huzzah!)

i go to the doctor, he tells me i got this long strangely-named condition and gives me some pills.
two weeks later im cured!

I’ve had some infection or something of some sort when I was tiny, and I lost some of the hearing in my right ear, and even to this day I am still slightly deaf in that ear, and will be forevermore.
I did have an anti-biotic that tasted off banana though
It sometimes creates problems since I often mishear what people say sometimes, and Think they said something odd. But I can live with it, I know people who’ve had it worse.

I had Scarlet Fever when I was 10, was in quarantine for a month (boring). Also had Salmonella a few years back, very nasty.

Yes, a couple of years ago I went through three months where I could not eat without intense pain in my stomach. I went to doctors had hospital checks, on meds, but they really weren't sure what was happening. I was producing extreme amounts of stomach acid and they don't know why - it may come back again but I know which drugs to take now - they don't stop it, just make it easier and shorter.

It was a terrible time for me. I was having electrolyte drinks and nuetral soups only as this was all I could eat. I went from 83kg to 65kg at the peak of it (and i'm 186cm tall) and was shockingly tired and depressed. Without faith and love and support I don't think I could have got through it. It still causes problems now but is mainly under control.

Edit: I also had to keep working the whole time which really took it's toll...
