The Presidential Palace in Santiago de Chile was stormed on Sept 11th,
1973.
This marked the Start of a coup with American backing to
overthrow the Democratically elected Popular unity government of
Salvador Allende.
Over 30,000 people died then and later under pinochets regime as a result of this, many under hideous torture and in summery executions.

Many things actually happened on the 11th of September.

On the 11th of September, 1893, the Parliament of World Religions was organized at the World's Fair in Chicago, with the intent of bringing together leaders of the world's religions to promote inter-religious understanding. Sad that the spirit of this event was never promoted further...

And if I'm not mistaken, September 11th 1492 was also the day when a certain Mr Christopher Columbus arrived at the shores of the American continent.

Remember those things, i mean i know what happened overthere and it was really bad, but where i come from we hardly hear anything that happens in Chili. Plus the fact that it was 30 years ago now. I you want me to remember all the shitty things that happened in the world, and not only the ones on September 11, then i'm gonna be sad for the rest of my life. I'd rather look forward.

I suppose I can sympathise with you to some extent, but don't you reckon we can also learn important lessons from history? If we don't remember the past, might we not repeat it?...

I know thats a quote, or close to it anyway. Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it. I just cant remember where it comes from and I know that I know it, really aggravating. Sod it.

Of course we must remember, but i don't see the need to do that with all kinds of activities. For instance, Holland was liberated from the Germans on May 5 1945, and now every year on May 5 there are celebrations throughout the land, but people seem to have forgotten what they are celebrating. You'll have to see for yourself what i'm talking about. This has nothing to do with Holland being freed, it's just another occasion to get drunk and stoned. It's better imo that people remember for themselves.
