look tho some previoulsy mentioned topics; if u want my advice; get some dragon-killin equipments; ie swords, etc., some timestop~spells, and hack and slash away. surround the dragon; then charge! use ur mage to cast time-stop, use hostile magic, then keep hacking and slashing.

Um, Calaethis...most characters won't be able to cast "time stop" unless they A) do it from a scroll or B) have ToB installed.

What I would suggest is the following:

A) Summon "fodder" (summoned creatures) and occupy the dragon with those.

B) Cast "Wizard Eye" and make the dragon attack that while you whack at it from the backside

C) Put every kind of protection spell on you that you can, and haste all of your characters. For Firkraag, for instance, have everyone with Protection from Fire on.

D) Have your mages memorize all their abjuration spells possible (Ruby Ray, Magic Word, Spell Thrust, Pierce Magic, Pierce Shield (if you can cast it), Greater Malison (to reduce the dragon's saving throws)).

E) Have your characters lower the dragons' magical resistance by casting "Magic Resistance" on him...it actually lowers the resistance on a dragon! Then have a cleric or druid cast "Harm" on the dragon while the mages pommel him with "Magic Missile"...should take him out fairly quickly.

F. Summon fodder and cast "Otiluke's Resiliant Sphere" on them and send them up to the Dragon. The dragon will keep attacking the protected fodder while you take him out.

G. Cast "Feeblemind" on the dragon after lowering magic resistance and using Greater Malison. The dragon will sit there like an idiot (which he now is! ;) ) and you can take him out quickly.

H. Have your thief surround the dragon with traps (this works on Firkraag and the Shadow Dragon, since they aren't initially hostile). Then lower resistance and Greater Malison the dragon, attack, and watch the traps do the rest.

Hopefully these strategies may help you. Good luck!

There are also a great number of good strategies over at Gamebanshee. ;)

Something to add to your post, Sazerac.
1. Use Resistant Fodder ( fire elementals and efreetis for firkraag, skeleton warriors for Adalon). They will last longer.
2. I like to cast many, many, dooms, greater malison, magic resistance, and lower resistance on firkraag, and then cast the spell "Polymorph Other". Don't you just LOVE squirrels? Not me.
3. Yes, there are ways of memorizing and casting "Time Stop" without ToB or Shadowkeeper.

Its possible to cast time-stop in SoA repeatadly using Simulacrum and putting the scroll in your quikslot ... but i dont think memorizing is a to good idea, since you'll never get any 9th lvl spell-slots in SoA...

P.s. Gotta love those simulacrum's ... suddenly two immensly powerfull Kensai/mage's with Ring of Gaxx, Ring of ram, robe of vecna, dual wielding celestial fury and Dakkon's zerth blade ... well ..really,need i say more ?

Funny thing is, as soon as any fighter/mage .. or mage or that matter.. gets -spell immunity-, no single opponent stands much of a chance....

Spell immunity: abjuration , means that any protection you casted on yourself is allmost impossible to dispel ( there's only one spell in the entire game that dispells protections and isnt from the abjuration school )

A dragon unable to disable your Protection From Magic Weapons .. or stoneskins / mirror images and so on ... is a dead dragon.
Buffed up sufficiently, the only real effect you'll notice is the eventual sweaping away after a dragon buffet ... though you probably wont be damaged in the process.

I was able to toy with Fiirkraag, being a solo lvl 13/14 Kensai/mage
I didnt even memorize any damaging spells, since i wanted to turn him into a feebleminded blind squirrel with 3 strenght ... unfortunately he made all saves .. so i was forced to kill him ... took about 2 to 3 rounds once i actually tried to harm him.

what u do, is if its nurtral to you (frikragg) cast resistance on it (the helpful one) that was through a bug in the game his resistance will actually go down. then summon 3 or 4 markenians (sp) swords and make them attack the dragon head on then attack from the sides and the back. the dragon will focus all his/her attention on the swords which CANT be killed! after a while summon some more and send them up to the front to keep attack! then hack and slash and summon and cast and kick his/her scaley ass!!!

1. If you are going to use Maguc Resistance; cast it at as low a level as possible. It gives something like 2% magic resistance per level of the caster and if this is lower than the subjects initial resistance, it will lower it to the set value. After you do this, cast "Lower Resistance" at as HIGH a level as possible.

2. Rest before you go in to fight; this is to have full HP and memorisation.

3. Spells to memorise- KNOW THE TYPE OF DRAGON. Against one that breaths fire (such as Firkraag), memorise all the protection from fire spells you can, no other protective spells. Use summons which are resistive to the element, as mentioned above. DO NOT memorise any other spells which use that element, as they will be useless.
EDIT Don`t forget the spells to remove the dragons defences. Things like breach, Warding Whip, etc. Also, spells to stop it casting spells- Insect Plague works quite well.

4. DO NOT use traps. If you even use one trap against a dragon, even if it doesn`t do damage, the game will not give you any XP for killing it. This is true for Firkraag and the Shadow Dragon; so ir would be best to assume that it is also true for the many others in the game.

5. Have some of your party melee it, others use ranged weapons. Don`t stick to one if you can use both. Use the dragon helm, shield, and sword you find in the first part of Firkraags dungeon; and the most powerful weapons you have. There is a bow in Trademeet which fires phantom arrows- it works well, as does the Flail of Ages +3.
