As I'm living on my own now (in the city where I'm studying archaeology) my parents agree on me, that I need a computer for myself. So, I was just wandering around, and I saw this brochure of a computer shop here in the Netherlands (called Dynabyte). They had an offer;
ATX Midi Tower • Intel® Pentium® 4 2,0 GHz processor • 256 MB DDR-RAM memory • 512 kb cache • 64 MB Nvidia GeForce MX-420 videocard • 60 GB Ultra ATA harddisk 7200 rpm • 16x48x DVD-ROM • 32x12x40x CD-Rewriter • AC97 six Channel Onboard 3D soundkaart • 56K6 soft modem • 10/100 Mbps onboard networkcard • 2x IEEE 1394 Firewire • 4x USB • PS/2 keyboard • Wheel mouse • Incl. Microsoft Windows XP & Works 6.0 • Philips Subwoofer set This all for approximately 1000 dollars.. Is that cheap, or not? I don't need a screen, cos I already got one, but I really really hope my parents go and buy me that comp.. What do you guys think?? P.S. Some of the translating might (read: will) be wrong, but I don't know all the English words in computer-language |
As has been said in other threads of this type lately...lose the MX video card. If you intend to play any new games on it, that card will be the bottle neck and slow you down. Try to see if they will swap it with a Geforce4 4200,4400 or 4600.
Mark [edit] BTW the cards I listed have 128MB of ram on them, which is not bad to have. [ 09-18-2002, 06:11 AM: Message edited by: skywalker ] |

Hmm.. The salesman told me it was just a Geforce 4.. What's the difference between the MX then?

They create these monster machines and proceed to cripple it with watered down video cards...I just don't get it! Here's a link, Link :D ) :http://www17.tomshardware.com/graphi...force4-06.html Mark |
Just read the link, Mark. Thanks.. I don't know now.. Maybe I could ask if they could put in a 4200 in the comp, and pay a little extra... It wouldn't even be really expensive then, right?

GeForce 4MX 440 ( 64MB DDR) - 96 euro GeForce 4TI 4200 (128MB DDR) - 223 euro. There's a difference... |
Yeah. I really need to think this over.. What would you do Groj? I don't really know if the MX 420 is good enough. I mean: I want to play NWN at full, you know :D
