My wife belongs to another message board and this past weekend we went to their annual gathering in New York City. There was about 80 people there from all over the U.S., Canada and even 1 girl from Sweden. It was a freaking blast!! There were all kinds of group activites going on and a real chance to turn online friends into real life friends. It got me thinking that maybe we could get something like that going on with the people here. They had group discounts on hotel reservations and reservations for dinner on fri and sat allong with reservations for local bars big enough to hold a group that size both nights. If anyone is interested in doing something like that we need to pick a place, pick a weekend and get some planning done.

I'd be totally into that, but.. it would have to be sometime after August 7th, maybe in October?

Why, New York of course. There's plenty to do. You don't need a car, and it's relatively cheap to get to from most places.

That was their idea as well, Yorick. They are also having 3 more gatherings this year. 1 in Montreal,Canada, 1 in Chicago and 1 in Los Angeles. Maybe we should just see where the largest concentration of our members are and do it there?

Yeah I really think we need to sort out where the most members are.
I personally think London would be better as its just as accessible as New York and I *think* there are more European members than North American here.
However, New York would be more interesting for me to visit for obvious reasons :D

I remember telling MagiK (and I think, Micah Foehammer) that this type of thing would be so great...even if it were actually a European version and an American one (and any other main concentration of Ironworkers) rather than one huge get together. Summer would probably be better for the younger set, school-wise.
