Grind it against a wall. A real diamand won't even be scratched :D

Horatio 02-13-2003 02:55 PM

Give it to a woman. If they keep in touch, its real :D

take a bit of tissue and stick it to the "diamond" while it is damp. The tissue will block out enough light that it will damp out any internal light refractions. All diamonds possess a flaw that shows up as a black area in the interior of the stone when applying this test.

Only a gemologist or other mineral specialist can be certain and do it safely (to the stone). The scratch test on something directly below diamond on the hardness scale should be a fairly reliable amateur test. You chance chipping the stone when doing this though. The fact that it is so hard to tell the difference makes one wonder what makes it so valuable as an adornment. At least a good diamond has it's rarity I guess. That's more than can be said for designer labels. ;)

What good does griping do, we all wind up buying them for the ladies/kids in the end anyway! At least I can live knowing I've provided for a better quality third world sweatshop. ;)

Of course you could always go to a jeweler, that's what they're for you know. :D

In Amsterdam and Antwerp they can tell you all about diamonds.

The only thing harder than a diamond......is paying for it. ;)

Why is it diamonds are a girls best friend but mans best friend is his dog? What's all that about then? ;)
