Hmmmprf...again I must see a woman flee right before meetin here...
this brings me to some conclusions...U always see in talkshows and the liek about people who found their love via the internet... I just can´t help to think that theres a lot more hurting goin on on diverse chatboards etc than there are happy stories! I´d like to be proven wrong...but again you always see the happy stories....never the suck/damned stories about broken hearts and people backtalking! Again I jump to some other thoughts...I´ve got the oppinion that the net is a good thing...it eases the communication and gives good acces to...well a load of things incl. porn :D ( wich if the clever ones are right is about 85 % of the net ) But again I can´t help to wonder...do I spend too much time online...do we spend more time living a "fake" life online than we do IRL...I can´t answer myself...but it sure does leave me with an aching head! This little tirade of thoughts was brought on by the request of a gorgeous girl I´d been chattin with for a month...when she txted me on the phone askin for some time without contact as she had issues with an x...I´m not hurting but I AM frustrated and a bit distressed cause I feel insecure even though I know its not me... Anyways...just needed to write it down and look at it...love´s a funny thing! |
I don't think being online is living a 'fake' life - as long as you have a balance between chatting online and having a good face to face social life as well. In days gone by, people had pen pals - now we have internet friends.
As far as dating people you meet on the net, that stands the same chance of working out as dating someone you meet any other way. Sometimes you get along with people, sometimes you don't, it doesn't make a lot of difference whether you met them online or in the grocery store! You could meet someone in a bar, date them, and then find out a while later that they weren't being honest with you. Personally I don't go to chatrooms, but I have dated people I've met on message boards and they are all just nice regular people, no-one was dishonest or anything other than I thought they'd be. No, none of them have worked out (yet LOL) but then how many dates with people you meet elsewhere work out? The whole thing's a bit hit and miss, no matter where you meet potential parners. At least if you meet people on message boards you tend to have something in common from the word go. I have a date this week with a guy I just met online - so wish me luck! :D (Waits for all the IW couples to turn up and tell their tales LOL). [ 05-26-2003, 06:16 AM: Message edited by: Epona ] |
My own personal theory: the media pounces on "bad" relationships. It's quite likely that for every "bad" internet relationships, there's four or five good ones that just aren't the sort of horror story the papers want. Calaethis Dragonsbane and I have been going out for six months now, and he's great (I know I've mega-embarassed him, too :D ). Take a look at Cloudy and Nacht, or Reeka and Bardan. Do either of those couples seem like a "bad" relationship to you?

Where's the alliteration in that? I think Mouse Mates would be a better term ;)

Ah, there we go. I had expected a comment along those lines ;)
Too bad I hadn't prepared a suitable reply, it would have been most entertaining, I am sure  |
I gave up online dating awhile back. The problem might have been she was a bit too honest, The ad said " Looking for special man to share my life and relationship with God with"
All well and good til she tried to sacrifice me to something called "The Eternal Sadist" Wasn't all bad though...she had a nice whip :D |

I don't think anyone could say they're in a serious relationship with someone online if they have no plans to ever meet and are not being honest at least on their end. But I think it's as valid a place as any to meet someone. How much more real is it meeting someone in a bar when you're both drunk and you can't hear yourselves talk anyway? ;) |

I can't speak for everyone...Magik and I met on-line and have been happily living together almost nine months. It is like any other meeting place. Except it is easier to stay anonymous with the wierdos, mutants, and axe-murderers (unless those are the categories you are looking for!)
