Possibly I'm one of the few here on Ironworks who are actually familiar with Elliott Smith's work, but the lo-fi singer/songwriter behind brilliant records like Either/Or and XO has died last night at the age of 34. Exact details are still unknown, but it is believed he died in a hospital after a suicide attempt, tragically drawing another comparison with his big source of musical inspiration Nick Drake. :(
He's best known for his surprising Oscar nomination for his work for the Good Will Hunting Soundtrack, with "Miss Misery" nominated in the Best Song Category - other well known songs and classics include Waltz #2 and Sweet Adeline.

May he rest in peace.

If you think you're possibly the only one who knew the guy, why post? You really ought to start giving people a little more credit than that, Mr Elite-Musical-Taste. ;)

OK, sorry, just joking. Sorry to hear about his death, and sorry if you were saddened by it....

hopefully now he has the peace he seemed to have been after... suicide's never a fun thing to come to terms with, but at least you have the music he left behind man...

</font>
Actually he isn't that obscure (nominated for an Oscar, sold relatively well), it was more of a standard opening routine as I'm unaware of his popularity here on Ironworks and in result a little unsure about the responses to it... No musical snobbishness intended whatsoever. :(

Awww, man, Mel, look at what you did. You made him sad. SAD! You just don't know when to quit with your never-ending vindictive jabs do you? I've had it with you two fighting. Shake hands or go to your rooms!

;)

You should be the one talking ;)

Yes I should! I know what's best because I have a 100% track record of always being right and never being rash, brazen or foolhardy, EVER! ;)

And damn if we havn't ruined the somber atmosphere of Groj's thread. Sorry Grojlach :(

You two are in a funny mood, if somewhat misplaced...

*grabs broom*
Shoo, shoo! Now you either say more considerate things about the genius that was Elliott Smith or you take your conversation to another topic. I've got a broom here and I'm not afraid to use it! ;)
