Hello! Just one question about the Dvd Rom and Writer.

i found a nice internal drive with a juicy price i wish to save up on.

specs:
GIGABYTE GO-W0404A INT.4X4DVD- DUAL BURNER
DVD+(4X4X12),DVD-(4X2X12),CD(40X24X40)NERO5.

So, I have a question about it:
I know about the dvd's that they have a region code. I am not sure whether it applies only to players but is does it also apply to dvd writers as well. I want my internal drive on my computer to play multi-region if possible. So im a little confused here. opinions anyone?

edit: the reason why im asking this is because that this dvd-writer can write on both + and - cd's

edit: once again.. this is in terms of AUD so in US it is around 120 or so.

AFAIK, region DVDs only applies to movie DVDs. I think the DVDs that you burn will not be region encoded.

DVD+R and DVD-R are two different DVD formats, not all DVD players support these the formats; I think DVD-R is more compatible with most of the DVD players.

Here is the link about DVD region codings from TechTV: http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/a...410817,00.html

how about the dvd movies im going to watch? they are in region codes right? so is my dvd drive limited to certain regions?

SpiritWarrior 04-28-2004 10:34 AM

DVD's that you burn can be burned with a universal region code. Many new dvd's use this new code now since it eases alot of hassle.

Quote:

Computer-playback systems check for regional codes before playing movies from a DVD-Video. Newer "RPC2" DVD-ROM drives let you change the region code up to five times. Once a drive has reached the limit it can't be changed again unless the vendor or manufacturer resets it.

based on the article you gave me.. nuts.. thats so bad.. i mean.. what if import some stuff from japan or us.. or europe.. this is so bad :(

You might want to consider buying those cards that enable you to change DVD region. (as told in the article)

Or just download this free software and give it a try.

If you want to try other software, feel free to click here for the search results from Google.

AFAIK, in a DVD drive, the region code can be changed a certain number of times and will then be locked on the final region code selected.

How reliable would that software be? Couldn't it seriously screw up your drive?

Paladin2000 04-29-2004 03:28 AM

I have no idea how good those software are because I have not own any DVD ROM (don't laugh!). Anyway, they claims that their software will not meddle with your DVD firmware or any other hardware... I guess you will have to try it out yourself.

Oh, I just noticed that the link to free software are dead, the rest are either trialware or shareware. Just conjure up "Google" and keep on looking for other free stuff out there, otherwise if you are really desperate, just buy a copy of "DVD Region-Free". From their homepage, it looks quite reliable enough.
