I was thinking of getting one, but wanted to hear opinions on them from the group. What do you think of them? Anyone have one, if so, do you like it? Anyone have one they'd recommend or tell me to avoid?

I'm looking on Tom's hardware site for info, I just wanted to pick your brains for opinions.

Hallo Harley!

I'm sure Brain would love to give an opinion about video capture thingies, but he's busy at the moment trying to hatch some half baked "World Domination" plan or something or other. (I wonder what kind of egg that comes in?)

As for what I think about them, why would you want to capture videos? What did they do to you? Is depriving them of their freedom really neci...

OOOOHHH! A BUTTON!

TROZ!!

LOL. Wow, all it took was one post to derail my thread. I wonder if that's a record

I'd tell you why I want to capture them, but then I'd have to kill you rather than risk you tell others my plot.

Night Stalker 04-28-2004 02:02 PM

D Rail? Is that one of the subway lines in New York City?

Oh well, when Brain's latest plan blows up in his face (they always do), I'll have him stop by so you can pick him for opinions.

Now, while you're capturing videos, could you let me have the ones with Bobbi Brown in them? Not Bobby Brown, that Boyz to Men bloke that thought he was so cool for marrying Whittney Housten, but Bobbi Borwn, that blonde from those chessy Warrent vidoes! Let me know if you capture one of those!

I'll trade you for Spike!

What are video capture cards? Do you mean graphics cards and if so get the radeon 9600 xt

Night Stalker 04-28-2004 03:11 PM

No. LOL Video capture cards take either raw analog video or digital video and convert it to a format suitable for software editing. The Radeon may have some vid capture functionality though.

harleyquinn 04-28-2004 03:34 PM

What??? You have Spike? I KNEW IT!! I'm breaking into your place and stealing, uh, I mean borrowing him.

*sigh* 6 posts and not one answers my questions

No, I don't mean a graphics card. I mean a capture card. It allows you to convert video from TV/Camera/VCR/DVD-player to a format like MPEG onto your computer.

Well, you had a good question, but alas, no replies. :( I just didn't want your thread to be all lonely and forgotten and fall off the page.

Hmmmmm ............

Say Harley ........ Are you pondering ......... what I'm pondering?

If you also play games, and money is no object get an ATI 9800 all-in-wonder, does everything including video capture.

If video editing at a pro level is a requirement, get a Miro DC30+ - they are expensive but very, very good. They also include software, Adobe Premiere.

If money is very much an object, and the highest levels of performance aren't a goal. I highly recommend the MSI version of the GeForce FX5600XT - it has everything but the kitchen sink and pulls very good 3DMark03 scores when overclocked - and you can o/clock these by as much as 100%; I know from personal experience. There are people getting 3dmark scores in the 2700 range, which is terrific for a $150 card.
