The Eurovision Song Festival 2004 has been won by Ukraine. Singer Ruslana left rivals Serbia-Montenegro and Greece far behind with her song Wild Dance. Twenty-four countries took part in the final, which was held in Turkey's capital Istanbul.
Viewers in various countries voted for their favourite number, but were not allowed to vote for their own country. Many countries awarded the most number of votes to neighbouring or friendly countries. The 49th edition of the festival was broadcast in 41 countries and was watched by 300 million viewers. Gongrats to Ukraine, but I wonder if they have enough money to hold the ESF next year.

Dancing girls in leather with a fiery background... I wonder why they won

I saw the voting part, and i was laughing my ass off. It always was "you scratch my back, and i'll scratch yours", but since we got 6547 new eastern European banana republics, it has become a complete fluke. The musical part isn't worth watching, because 99% of all contestants usually suck. I've heard the winning song, and it's from a category that makes me want to shut down my radio.
It's also funny to see how Cyprus always gives Greece 12 points. They have been doing that ever since the start of the show. No matter how much the Greek song sucks, they get 12 points from Cyprus. :D |
Since when did the Eurovision Song Contest have anything to do with music? It's all politics . Why do you think the UK were the only ones last year to get a big fat 0? England joined the Iraq war :D ! It... err.. had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that our people... sucked. LOL, johnny! The amount of arse licking and sucking up on that show is off the scale! 12 points each year? Really? Wow, they must be about to call in the favour in some way.

I heard that the organisation didn't care who would win, except for one: the Ukraine. For some reason it was a doomscenario for them to move the circus to Kiev next year, dunno why exactly, but that's what a reporter said.
And guess where they're going next year ? :D |
Of course the whole show is bollocks! I mean at least Hungary had the class not to enter and make a fool of themselves :D

Hmph, this was the first Eurovision I didn't watch in a very long time, due to Estonia's demise in the semi-finals. I repeat, of the semi finalists, Estonia got the 11-th place while 10 of the countries passed! We were 2 points too short.
I wish I would've seen it though, TV volume to nil, radio on - there was a discussion involving 2 people about it on the radio at the same time. I later heard of some of the funny things they did. *The songs have all been listened to, voting begins.* "So yeah, we're thinking of going on a trip. So you just vote for the country you think we should go to. Please, don't send us to Ukraine or Slovenia or any such slavic country - They're a bit too cold." |
