I think I might try to play through on insane as a solo divinator, I'm just wondering if it's flat out impossible or if it's even worth the trouble(divination magic seems kinda useless).

::sob:: Let me finish as an Avenger first, you idea-thief, you!
The school opposite Divination is Conjuration... you'd think it would be Illusion... That means that you can't summon elementals or use power words, but you still have spells like Mirror Image, Project Image, Animate Dead, Stoneskin, Magic Missile... the list goes on. I myself won the game as a solo sorc and I don't think I picked *any* divination spells.. so I'd say it's very possible. |

The thing is you don't really NEED any of the divination spells but it's what I'm forced to pick. Anyways I just finished irenicus' dungeon and some of the side quests, and it isn't too hard so far. I just keep up Blur, Mirror Image, Stoneskin, Protection weapons, and a few shadow door spells and let loose on offensive spells. :D Hardest fight was probably against the skeleton warrior in graveyard so far because of his really high magic resistance(Took 3 lower resists to reliable magic missile/fireball him to death) |
Yes you DO *need* divination spells.
Identify saves you hundreds in gold; claervoyance is very useful, true sight and Oracle are both very useful against mages and thieves. Farsight can tell you if you`ve enemies ahead. If you don`t see any value in divination spells; try soloing a Conjurer. |
Well I'm level 14 on my diviner so far Lennon, and yea I see that those spells are really nice :D
What I meant though was take a sorcerer for example, with the summons and mordenkainens sword(which diviner can't get) you don't even need to bother with all the sight spells, they are just a nice commodity. UPDATE: Just killed firkraag too, so going along nicely (Had to use a little bit of cheese but oh well(that level 6 death fog spell X 3, along with 4 casts of lower resists, and running in a circle with my boots of speed), but I DO have TOB and the baldurdash fixpack installed so ) EDIT: Mispelt(sp?) Diviner at the first sentence. [ 08-06-2002, 04:56 AM: Message edited by: Xenow ] |
Hmmm....thinking ahead, when I get to watchers keep and enter the no-magic zone does anyone have any advice on what I should do?
I was thinking lots of wands(I THINK they work) |

No problem.
I found to my dismay that Chain Contingencies and Tensor's Transformation do not work in that zone, even if you cast the spell beforehand... ... Technically, you can use Wands of Cloudkill and run around the perimeter, but that is too much hassle for too little reward( you should have maxed out by then, and the loot they drop is useless). The only zone that I failed to kill any hostiles, when I soloed with my Sorcerer. |
