Anyone here in IW follow boxing? What style do you have, and how do you train?
|
I like boxing very much but because it’s been on pay TV for so many years I have very little current knowledge of the sport.
I have only ever been to amateur boxing matches but it is one hell of an experience. Far from being barbaric it is one of the most safety conscious and gentlemanly sports I know. . |
I box occasionally, though not as much as I wrestle and row...cos i'm sore for days after. :D
Style? I just box :D I train for boxing specifically by "hitting the bag", punching pads, and jogging... a lot. The rest you figure out in the ring when your trainer keeps hitting you Boxing fights make all the training worth while, every fight's an exiting challenge where you've got figure out a certain tactic to take out your opponent. |
I train thai boxing 3-4 times a week and box/spar with a friend of mine ewery saturday. Boxing is sooooooooo misunderstood sport. I´ve heard many people saying things like: "it´s not even a sport" or "how stupid do you have to be to go to the ring". Sorry for all foot ball (the european version) follovers but I just can´t see the poin in chasing some ball all arond a field and trying to kick it in some net.
And for the questions I think that first learn the basic technics and then spar, spar and spar. Fortunately for me EuroSport shows all the K1 tournaments and the biggest boxing events. |
I LLLLOOOOOVVVVEEEEE K1, it really rules :D
Eurosport is a must for any fighting-aficinado! Oh yes, football does indeed suck. |
I am OK with boxing, my Mom loves it. I do find pro-boxing to be a little barbaric at times, I mean these guys are trying to KO each other, not try to achieve the most points or hits. Concussions are the worst kind of injuries and they are barbaric. Why not just give them maces to beat each other with. Amateur boxing that we see in the Olympics tends to be more refined and involves more finesse and I tend to enjoy these matches more. Now fencing is a real gentleman's sport, quite impossible to get a concussion.

Fencing is insanely difficult to follow. I newer see who´s doing what. Still they always find a winner so I quess I´m just too slow to realise what´s happening.
Sigmar who´s your favorite fighter? I would like to see Bonjasky vs. Kouklai (the 78 kg killing machine from Thailand). It would have happened allready if the japanese judges wouln´d be so shamelesly sided towards Musashi!!! They totally stole the victory last time. |
I box a lil bit, mostly jus foolin around with friends, but il say this ther is no greater satisfaction than uterly destroying the guy your boxin with.
|
I watch boxing on Eurosport occasionally. It's a sport like any other and requires skill like any other sport. I wouldn't go up into the ring myself but if the boxers want to, let them.
