1) Where is the search feature on this forum?

2) How does one perform a backstab? Can you do it with ranged weapons?

3) How does one use abilities on equiped items? (i.e. Daystar & Ring of invisibility)

4) Does everyone experience this? Minsc or Jaheira will go off on their own and attack enemies even when those enemies are immobilized (web/entangle) and there's an AOE spell (ie. cloudkill) going. Is that just the nature of their scripts? If I turn AI off, will I still get their comments and witticisms?

5) When fighting hand-to-hand, what generally works better? Concentrating all attacks on to one enemy at a time? Or spreading out the attacks? (one melee fighter/enemy)

6) Thief abilities, how high is enough for each one (especially pickpocket & pick locks)

I realize that all these questions have probably been asked before (that's why I want to know how to search). I just figured that it couldn't hurt to ask for them along with 1). Hope I wasn't too annoying & thanks ahead of time.

First of all, Welcome to Ironworks!

1. I believe that the search function no longer works but i may be wrong.

2. Your thief has to hide in shadows and then attack an enemy from behind with a MELEE weapon.

3. There should be a funky backpack symbol you click on on your toolbar.

4. It's their scripts and yes you will get the comments with AI off.

5. Attack one enemy with your group

6. I generally find 200-250 enough.

For question 6,

Lockpick: 125%
Detect/Disarm Traps: 125%
Set Traps: 100%
Pickpocketing: 200%
Move Silently & Hide in Shadows: 125%+

I would argue that 100 is enough on picks locks. In my game Jan has 100 and I've never encountered a lock he couldn't open.

Yes, but lower than that works better too-Immy hasn't met a lock she couldn't pick after spellhold, and everyone says she's a crap thief. I keep her 'cause she's my little !"%£^%% (censored to stop spoiler)

if you try and do the thieves guild lockpicking test, it will prove beyond her ability, some of the locks actually require 100% lockpicking ability, and some armor will lower her chance, the elven chain IIRC

You will be amazed by some of the locks in ToB. True, potions can help overcome them, but I prefer to have a healthy default. ;)

SixOfSpades 08-30-2002 04:45 PM

100% Lock Picks has never failed for me, either, even all the way through ToB. (How many locks ARE there in ToB anyway? Not a lot, from what I remember....)

All the Locks and Traps from Spellhold on [Main Plot, anyway] are SERIOUSLY toned down, because

the game knows you don't have Yoshimo anymore and are stuck with Imoen. Apart from Bodhi's Lair, there are only really weak Locks, and NO Traps at all in the Main Plot--and you can get Thief help for Bodhi. completely unrealistic, if you ask me, but what BioWare did to Imoen is unrealistic too.
