This is soo annoying, after reaching the mark of 4 unarmed attacks per round, my monks not gaining anymore attacks, so is that the limit for monks eh?

Dundee Slaytern 08-31-2002 03:38 AM

Monks are not my forte.

Eh... I assume the base is 2 attacks per round?

You get an extra 1/2 attack per round at level 7 and 13.

That gives you 3.

Plus gauntlets, 7/2 apr.

How did you get 4?

They start with 1 unarmed attack, gain 1/2 attack per round every three levels. Thus, Whacky- level up a bit more; you`ll get an extra attack eventually

However, GWW sets it to 10 per round (Of course youll need ToB to get it) and (new with ascension installed) casts Improved Haste on you. Nothing Will Survive.

But without ToB your stuck at 4, immune to haste, so your not overly superpowerful. Woudnt recommend soling in that instance, but with a party you should be alright.
I've got ToB, but isn't there a way without GWW eh ? Oh and andrewas i see that monks take a load of damage, anyway of reducing that except hardliness, also does anyone know what level is a fir giant and is the deathblow/greater DB ability worth gettin, i tend to stick with WW and GWW.

Andrewas, Monk's Immunity to haste makes them immune to Improved Haste, as well.
GWW, on the other hand, is an amazing skill for Monks.
And, AFAIK, the Monk's number of attacks limit is 9/2, not 4. But i might be wrong about this.

Fire giants' level is either 15 or 20 (just checked), so even GDB won't work on them.

As I said, new with ascension installed. Dont ask me to explain it, but when you use GWW with ascension you get Improved Haste even if your a monk.

GWW is indeed an amazing skill to have, but Id *kill* to have taken Hardiness as well. I did my picks in SoA and wasnt getting hurt in 90%+ of the battles, so I didnt think it neccesary.

And I just stripped my monk, and with no equipment he has 4 attacks.

On how to take less damage - erienne sling +5, Case of Plenty +5, GWW. Just cos monks are melee masters dosent mean they *have* to melee. Other than that - elemental resists where appropriate, physical resistance is avaiable from other sources, but not any that are really appropriate for a monk. Regeneration is useful since you can outrun the majority of the monsters, in the early game you can use various girdles ot impove AC against crushing, slashing or whatever. Even in the end game this can be useful, having the girdle of frost giant STR is useless if your dead. Boots of missile avoidance are good as well, combined with the monks natural missile deflection you can pretty much ignore missiles. Swap for Boots of the North when getting Cold damage though. Always *always* get the Immunity to +1 weapons in the endgame as well. Lifesaver.

Remember that your advantages are in speed, not toughness. Run like hell at all times, never stand and fight a room full of monsters if you dont have to.
