Thank god for Staples.. anyway, I HAD everthing off, but the lightning went through the cablemodem line or network cord or some weird thing and totally killed my less thank 5 month old router. (TDC) Well, I got one at staples at 8 at night, and now we are back.

Sending router to linksys for replacement then will return this other one.

I mean, it was SO close guys-the lightning, that we saw orange outside the windows. THAT was freaky. Choc simple laughed and 'hmphed' at the lightning.. yeh, HE'S not scared....

I was beginning to wonder why the forums were down, glad it was something which could easily get fixed! And I'm even gladder that the lightning didn't go even closer.

Wow! Was talking to LadyZ about IW being down and wondering if thunderstorms were why!

I'm so glad nobody and noCAT got hurt when your modem got hit!

Man, that's nasty! Glad to hear it was only a router, Z!

And, to bring up my perpetual suggestion... consider getting a whole-house surge supressor installed. They're far more capable than any surge supressor you buy at the store, and they protect *everything* in the house -- computers, phones, refrigerators, TVs, microwaves, stereo equipment... just route the main electrical, phone, and cable lines through it, and it protects them *all*.

Mine was about $150, and another $50 or so to have installed. Way cheap, compared to the cost of replacement and downtime.

That said, I'm glad everyone's okay (including the fearless Choc :D ).

At least no one hurt.

Maybe get some surge preventers in.

Mack_Attack 06-08-2005 04:14 PM

WOW that sucks. Glad to see everyone is ok.

I have an APC--the big ass 900 lb one , but the pc's and stuff fill it up, the router and the cable modem are the only ones on a normal strip. I should have unplugged them, damn... Even one of the ports on my cable modem is dead--the port I used.. (has 5 ports to plug into) so I'm using another.. but I can swap that for free.. leasing with brighthouse cable.

but man... what REALLY freaked me was I went outside 3 mins earlier to get a trashcan that blew into the yard... THREE mins diff, and I'd be dead. %%#%!
