As funny as these are, I respect Dell too much and agree that these should not have been put out.

Do they really need to make fun of Dell to sell their products?
Maybe if you were selling stuff to the average Joe, but I doubt the average family is going to go and buy an x64 server for their home, I thin the intended audiance is a bit smarter than Sun Microsystems give them credit for...

Bungleau 09-15-2005 09:11 AM

For some reason, I'm suspicious that those originated within Sun. At least, not as an official marketing campaign prototype. They look more like something a Sun afficionado would do when they came across some performance test results...

But I agree.... "Buy from me because my competitor is worse" is hardly a good sales tactic.

"Benchmark studies prove that Dell sucks"!? I don't think that a company with some form of legal department would say this.

Is it possible that those ads were nothing more than the result of a goofing off session for an in-house laugh. Everyone stuffs around at work in one way or another. Certainly doesn't look like they blew the budget producing them. I bet they still managed to sneak in two coffees before smoko was over... ;)

[edit: Just a thought: Bad publicity is just as beneficial as good in most cases. Wouldn't be the first time a PR manager has leaked inadequate 'Draft' material to generate a little hype.]

This is a classic hoax. Funny, but still a hoax. In fact if it originates from Dell or an associate it would be a Joe Job.

These aren't real.
If you go to the REAL sun website and then type in the rest of the URL you provided you'll see it doesn't exist.

Simple case of a scammer masking the real address.

Funny, though. :D

Cloudbringer 09-15-2005 02:07 PM

Funny as a joke but obviously not something a legit company would use to market their product... well not unless they like law suits! LOL

harleyquinn 09-15-2005 02:48 PM

When you look at the legit ads, they just say that they're better then the competition, they don't specify who that is.
