Ok, all i've ever done with the registry is changed the resolution of Warcraft 3. I want to know how to move a game's location, and for it still to work. The game is baldur's gate II, it currently resides in c:/program files/BG2 and wants to be in c:/Games/Baldur's Gate II

How do I back up the registry first? (ie where is it?) and then what do I need to change. I presume that the file baldur.ini will have to be modified too, but thats more of a BG2 forum question.

Start->run->regedit.

Backup with files->export. Use files->import to reinstate the backup.

As for what you need to change, you'll have to search the registry for the old path and replace it with the new one.

In balur.ini, you'll need to update the paths in the [alias] section.

Itd probably be easier to just uninstall and reinstall BG2 in the correct location.

Sometimes the game can automatically redirect itself (don't count on it though, but it's worth a try) in which case, try moving it, and changing the baldur.ini file to reflect the new location, and try, if it doesn't work, jump into the registry like andrewas said.

and while you can do that quite easily it will be nigh-on-impossible to change the uninstall part of the registry properly. So after doing it the only way of "uninstsalling" would be to delete files manually. So a reinstall now could save you some hassle (dont forget to back-up saved games first).
