<font color="gold">When playing CRPGs, what Race, Class and Alignment do you prefer?</font>

2 people voted for Paladin, and there is only 1 vote in Lawful Good... I don't understand......

Actually the Gnome race is my favorite race when I can make him a multiclass fighter/thief. I also enjoy playing Half-Elf Rangers/Clerics (1st edition) and Elven F/T/MU. One of my all time favorite PnP characters was a CN Gnome F/T named "The Gnat." He was a real pain. Another CN Gnome F/T that I played in my brothers campaign was "Blacky." He ripped off all kinds of evil temples because one time he did a job for a particularly evil religious group only to find out that he was cannon fodder. He came back and they commenced to Flame Strike him to death. His partner got roasted to ash. They thought Blacky was dead and dumped his body outside the town walls. A druid found him and nursed him back to health. Stripped of all items except for the necessary stuff, Blacky worked his way and stole his way back to his old self with the obsessive bent to steal from every evil temple he can find. Needeless to say he is constantly on the lam, he has been a target of one assassin plot after another, and that he somehow has the unlucky fortune of never being able to keep his hard earned loot. I love playing this character!

Seriously, they were a bunch of backstabbing freaks. One memorable story: A high level cleric and a high level mage had a serious feud going on and started dueling each other in the middle of a dungeon. The mage went ahead of the party and polymorphed into a pool of water. The cleric saw the pool of water, and having been taken by surprise by one too many water wierds, immediately cast "purify water"...you should have seen the look on the mages face. With pure classes (edit...had 'races' here) I was stuck with Half-Elf/Fighter/CG
My true favorite is Half-Elf/Fighter-Mage/CG...so fairly close enough. As for the Paladin voters: If you ascribe to the E. Gary GyGOD aspect of Paladins being holy warriors that can ONLY be Lawful-Good then you are missing out on some very fun game-play . I ask you...are there holy warriors only for LG gods or does it make perfect sense that all LAWFUL persuaded gods have their own holy warriors...such as the LE "anti" Paladin? I do not believe Chaos and Nuetrality giving the necesary structure for Paladins to operate (they really have no formalized "code" - for lack of a better word). Allow me to give all a taste of excellent game-play from some of my old dice&paper groups: Scene: Your typical AD&D town with a manor house (castle) dominating the landscape. Children playing something akin to soccer/football in the streets. The party moves on up to the town and the 'ball' the kids are kicking around ends up near the party's Paladin - which is, of course, being played as a "lawful-stupid" type. The Paladin reaches down and picks up the "ball"...recoils and drops said "ball" in abject disgust and righteous anger (everyone got the picture there? ) The "ball" is a human head. The child who kicked the "ball" strides up to the party and says to the Paladin in his best "Oliver voice" (English accent and all) "Please, Sir. May I have my mother back?" Of course the Paladin goes through the roof and gallops up to the 'castle'...challenges the "lord" of the 'castle' to a duel. Out comes the "lord"... an "anti"-paladin of Lawful-Evil alignment. He's a few levels higher than our intrepid Lawful-stupid guy and procedes to smack him around a bit. He quits the fight after getting our L-S Paladin to say "uncle" (he yields). Believe me when I say this entire 30 minute span of game-play was one of the MOST hillarious I have EVER been witness to! It was a great teaching moment for our L-S Paladin...The moral of the story? Simple, be very careful whose balls you play with. [ 01-19-2003, 02:11 AM: Message edited by: macoati ] |
