On a scale of 1 to 10, how large do you think the influence of television is...

The influence of TV as compared to... what? Other mass media means, like radio and the Internet? Or to any other things in life, like work, school or one's social life?
And what is 10, then? Does it mean you need the tv to tell you to breath in and breath out, or something? ;)

I'm influenced enough to watch it, so maybe 5?

I only watch cartoons though. IMO, everything else (besides MXC) is crap.

I said 8 for overall, because alot of things are influnced by it, as for me, I went with about a 3 or 4, I can do with out a tv better than I can a radio or my computer ;)

But for me I think that the statement actually true. Just to let you know since I am in France (august) I haven't watched tv. All the news I get is from the internet and I know how to shift through the bias of the presses. For example anything taken from BBC or CNN has to be looked at with a critical eye, because they only represent one point of view. The other side's view has to be taken into consideration also.

Just as an example let us take the presentation of the march 11 Spain bombings. I know quite a lot about this since my roommate here at university is from Spain, and also in my course there are around 15 spanish students. As you know the state presented the bombings as ETA and told the media to publish this, but later it was found that it was not ETA. Perfect example of the media capable of influencing people. In this small international student community we have here though (just FYI the course I am following has 200 people in it half of whom come from France and the other half from other European countries), we were skeptical about it, because there was simply no proof.

I know that does not prove that I am not easily influencable, but generally I don't take anything for true until believable proof is posted.

Just my 2 cents.

I think 5. I am not influenced as in violence or whatever but I am from the info I get of the world and news.

Hmm, I voted highest so far. 10 in general, 8 to me. Now of course, it's all very subjective. How

When I say 10, I obviously mean that it has influenced the world too goddamn lots. You'd be amazed, for example, about how many people imitate Jackass around different countries in Europe.

When I state that it's 8 for myself, I mean that I used to watch lots of telly. I (more or less) learnt the English language. But thank god I saw those corny English episodes of DBZ and Princess Mononoke dubbed, which, in the long run, brought me to the great world of Anime. ;)

Nowadays, I have completely stopped watching TV, except when there's a Japanese movie. I only use English as a tool to communicate to other people, learn Japanese language and culture better and win English school contests. ;)
