So lately I have a lot of people just quitting conversations or signing off without saying they're leaving. Do you do this as well and do you think it's a normal thing to do?

I don't do it, I always say bye when I leave. Right now if someone has closed their screen before I don't do it though. In gaim I get a message immediately when someone closes the conversation so that's better than trillian in which I had to write something new to see if the other had closed it.
I do think it's more friendly to say goodbye when you're leaving. Like if you're ending a conversation IRL you don't just walk away (in normal circumstances) either why do it on an IM?

Usually I always say bye unless threre`s something really urgent. And it`s not normal not to say bye.

i never leave off without saying something. if its an emergency, a BRB is the best thing, cus it gets you out, and lets em know youre going

I say goodbye. It's the decent thing to do. And my friends feel the same way... but I do feel it's 'normal' to just up and leave. What with unstable connections and other people being rude, it's a normal thing these days.

I feel lonely when they don't say bye!

So, yeah, I always say bye. But the thing is, saying 'bye' usually takes longer than the conversation itself.

I say bye, although i usually leave msn for long periods of time, even when Im not there so I usually just say like, Im away to... etc.

When I leave I say bye to people I have recently been talking to, but not everyone on contacts list or people who I haven't spoken to for say half an hour.

I always says bye before closing a message box window. I think it's a little impolite if you don't say bye.
But sometimes other people go offline all of a sudden because their internet has probably disconnected.

I hate it when people do it to me, I have a friend who does it, and she will be talking, then all of a sudden, she is not there anmore, even though she is still signed it, she just leaves the computer so my answers to both questions are no

Lol have that sometimes as well. Like I'll talk to someone if I have to say something and if people talk to me they should have something to start with anyway. i think some people are bored and don't know what to do and then you get this kind of a 'conversation'

he: hey
me: hey
an hour later, none of us has closed the window yet
me bye
signoff

Thing is that most people don't have internet troubles or we both have it at the same time. So we both signon again and notice we had the same thing. Gaim is so much fun it not only shows when someone quits a window on you it also shows ping timeouts

I am 50/50, if I have time to say goodbye and I have been having a decent convo with a person I will. But if I am hurrying or have not spoken to a person for a while I won't.
