I'm working on an old PII system, with Win2000 Professional on it. Somehow, the monitor image is split into 2 images, and the res is set at 1024x768. I can't adjust the res, and I can't remember how to get it back to a single image. I could work with it that way, I use that res on my monitor, for my computer. It's using an ATI RagePro something for video. How do I get the desktop image to show unsplit? It's like looking through binoculars backwards...

Into 2? As in, they overlap, fuzzily?

Only thing I can think of is if you use the monitor controls to change the position of the image on screen. I used to have a CRT that did something like this if you moved the image to far to one side.

Try that.

Also, was it something that you were messing around with in settings, that suddenly changed it? (Or maybe at reboot?) Or did it just happen without any warning, you hadn't changed anything, etc.

That's just the way it came up, ever since I hooked it up. In the boot screen, and in safe mode, it works fine. I think it has to be a driver issue, but the drivers are updated, according to the update tool, anyway. The monitor has two complete desktops displayed, like it's trying to run it as two monitors, instead of one. The only difference is that I can't drag files from one side to the other, they open on both sides. The whole system is just plain old, but the tower seems to work fine. I messed with all the adjustment controls, and while it does affect the screens, it doesn't make them any better.

Try looking at the video card settings.

(Control panel > Display > Settings > Advanced > Click the ATI RagePro Tab)

Make sure that the card is definitely not trying to output two displays.

There was no option to check it, and the computer isn't online, so I can't verify if the drivers for the ATI card are compatible with 2K. Off to find out if I can get updated drivers.

I don't know what a shadowed bios is, but it, and the system are shadowed. I replaced the harddrive with a spare little unit I had laying around, and with some resolution adjustments, I got it to work. I'll have to figure out what was up with this other one some other time, in the meanwhile, I have it working now.
