I've been away for a while, and have just started up a new game w/ a solo swashbuckler. In a any event, I can't remember how to make the sculptor quest work out to acheive the maximum reward. Little help....

I think the max reward is to give the real illithium to the sculptor.

You have to pay 1k gold to the merchant so that she reveals her source. Then, act accordingly and retrieve the real illithium, give it to the sculptor. Although, if you give him the fake, you'll still recieve XP and money from the temple, and I have heard that it is possible to upgrade Mace Of Disruption with the use of real illithium...

Most rewarding is to get both the real and the fake Illithium, give Sir Sarles the fake; and go back to the temple.
You can then upgrade the Mace of Disruption (or Azuredge if you have the Item Upgrade mod) with the real Illithium

Being a solo mage, I do not need the upgrade ;)

But, anyway, where do you upgrade the Mace?

Cromwell in the docks district can upgrade the mace.

Then probably it is a bug. During my first game, Minsk wielded the mace, and I have visited Cromwell many times - Suckalizer reforging etc. And he never mentioned anything about upgrading the mace. Or does it have to be in the main character's inventory in order to become noticed by the dwarf?

<font color="gold"When you have both the real Illithium and the Mace of Disruption +1 in your inventory, go talk to Cromweel. He should then be able to upgrade it.
If he doesnt, it's a bug that needs to be fixed. ;)

I don't plan on upgrading the mace this time around. I vaguely remember the reward from the temple being some decent magical items if you give up the real ore. (Is this where the ring of holiness can be acquired??)

IIRC, Sir Sarles will know if you give him a fake, and will refuse to perform under the agreement (you having committed a material breach of contract and all).

Take the fake ore to the temple and you will be rewarded.

Oh and btw WhirlingDervish, you only get the ring if you're a cleric. Otherwise you get a helm.
