Ah i know about winipcfg and from what i know that just tells your current IP.

*looks around on his system*

Ok, I THINK you have a cable modem or something, unless its dial up ya gotta tell me.

Theres a whole bunch of crap you could do, including calling your ISP, which would be the best!

Now if your on a network (LAN, bunch of computers hooked up sharing files and all that crap), you need to register a new IP and/or Computer ID. What i mean by ID is that every Computer has a name, like @home gives you names like a-043f08gfh0hh and then the second computer for the network is b-08hef0rew0084 (made up IDs).

IDs are different then IPs which are addresses given to you once you get online, sort of like license plates to surf the internet. While ID's are permanent addresses.

Im trying to make this simple as to what i understand. I dont even know if you are on a LAN. So bare with me.

From what I understand 56k's get a new IP every time they dial in depending on the ISP. Cable internet like @home gives you one forever, and thats what the ISP gives you, and most likely you need to call your ISP to get your IP if you lost it. Only the host computer in the LAN network needs an IP, or so is it with mine. I think this is the same for DSL and T-lines, which host many servers online and shouldnt change IP in the first place.

------Summary

If your on a LAN and your not the host computer(first computer with the Cable hooked up to it), call your ISP and "buy" a new ID, for a new computer. @home makes you buy new ID numbers for computers at least. 56ks are messed up, i dont wanna talk about em.

Either way... CALL YOUR INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER!!!!!!!!! THATS THE BEST WAY TO GET INFO AND MOST LIKELY WHATEVER I SAID MADE NO SENSE!

so uh, good luck, hope it helped a little.
