To play the IW Trivia Contest...

It's really easy, and best of all, FREE!!!

Here's what you have to do:
  1. Click here to go to the contest
  2. If you don't have an account, create one! It's free, and there's only one rule: you can only play in one contest with each account. If you want to do several trivia contests, you'll need to create several accounts.
  3. I guess there's another rule... if your account name or behavior are offensive, you'll be banned. We've had it happen once... only once, in something like three years.
  4. When you have your account, log in!
  5. Click on Play Today's Game to start playing!
  6. When you're done, brag or whine in the Shout Out box... ;)

A couple of other notes for you:
  • Length - Each contest is ten questions
  • Game Day - Each game lasts for one day, which is defined as a 24-hour period starting around 1AM Eastern, AKA GMT-5 (or UTC-5, for the modern folks). It *IS* possible to start a game at the end of the day, finish after the day ends, and not get credit for that game. Trust me, it sucks when that happens to you :madhell: Don't let it happen to you!
  • Time - The contest is timed, and the amount of time you take affects your score
  • Scoring - You get 100 points for each correct answer, less one point for every second it took you to complete the quiz
  • Real Scoring - Of course, that other scoring is to determine the day's rankings. The winner gets one point for every person who played. The un-winner (who got the lowest score) gets a minimum number of points... as few as 1-3. Everyone else gets a decreasing number of points, based on their position in the day's standings.
  • Standings - Every day, the highest score is the winner. If two people get the same score, the one that got it first wins. Not happy?
  • Cheating - It's a harsh word, but you can cheat by googling answers and such. Of course, that affects your time... and it's usually easy to tell :nono: Still, it's up to you.... c'mon, it's just a stupid contest!
  • Finishing later - You can start the quiz and finish later, but your time keeps on going. And your score keeps on dropping... :(
  • Monthly Winners - The top score for the month is declared the winner and goes into the Hall of Fame. The top ten also get recognized here on IW...
  • Starting Fresh - That means that the contest starts over again every month, so if you have a bad showing, it will soon be over...

What would be the bigger part, the speed or being correct?

Real score drops a lot after 10th position. Moreover 11th onward get same score (very litlle). Not sure how it works for 21st onward but you rarely get that many players.

Well, you get 100 points for being right, but if it took you 100 seconds to answer the question you'd get zero. I'd say being right is usually more important.

Plus if you got it wrong it didn't matter how fast you answered...

It's more important to be right, but taking too long is the same as being wrong ;)

As for scoring, it works on a sliding scale. Somewhere, I remember seeing a link that explained it, but that seems to have faded. I know the upper limit is the number of players, and the lower limit is... well.... low :) I *THINK* it tries to get to a one-point differential between players, and I think only the top 50 players get points. We haven't had to deal with that... yet...

Nope, it's more important to play and have fun doing so. ;)
