Favourite line, verse etc

What's your favourite line from a song, movie, speech etc. Or your favourite verse from a song, a book, "The Book" etc.

I thought maybe just 1 or 2 at a time would be best.

1. I have seen, it times gone by
I have felt, a different shadow on the wall,
a strangled hold on e certain feeling.
(Ultravox song lyric: Reap the wild wind)

2.I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Luke 13:3 ( helps to keep me in line) ;)

"Violence is the refuge of the incompotent"
-Isaac Asimov/Salvor Hardin

I could think of countless Pink Floyd quotes as well but this one I really love

"Strangers passing in the street, by chance two separate glances meet. And I am you and what I see is me"
-Echoes

Song lyrics, do it for me.

The all time favourite is a song a friend of mine wrote where the lyrics go:

'Maybe One Fine Day,
I will light up the stage
Where the bells of escape still chime.

That kind of hit me because of my love of escapism, especially that innane mediocrity that plagues most people. It's a fear I have. Being a musician/actor, I've always wanted to escape in to a different life using it. (I could quote lyrics from this guys band all day - to me, he is the perfect lyricist.)

One song he wrote, "Tethers", is the perfect summary of relationships and love, in my opinion. Lyrics thus;

There are stars in her hair
She is sad and she is fair
And I feel her filling up my future
We will try, try our best
Not to end up like the rest
If she cries, I will soothe her

But what's the use?

When my kids disown me
And when she has outgrown me
At last I'll see
There can be no victory
You and I forever
Tangled in our tethers

Pile on the years
She is hungry, she is fierce
And our love is the yoke around her shoulders
And this house that we found
Has become our battleground
As we dine on our scissors and stones

When our faith deserts us
And when our hope just hurts us
At last we'll see
There can be no victory
You and I forever tangled in our tethers
Choking on the end of the line

Won't anybody answer?

When your kids disown you
And when she has dethroned you
Then come with me
For a glass of sympathy
All of us together, tangled in our tethers
Crying, I still love her
Though I'm quite sick of her
And this is all I knew I'd ever get
From her

It moves beautifully from admiration to futility. As all life does.

A couple of mine...

Everybody's got a dream and a hunger inside"

"You've got to treat yourself like number one.
Do you need to be reminded?"

Re: Favourite line, verse etc

Boy, what have been playing at church lately..?

The entire song is pure poetry, but I'll just share the end:

..And it comes to you how it all slips away
Youth and beauty are gone one day
No matter what you dream or feel or say
It ends in dust and disarray
Like wind on the plains, sand through the glass
Waves rolling in with the tide
Dreams die hard and we watch them erode
But we cannot be denied
The fire inside
(Bob Seger, musical genius)

Driven out by thieves,
I watch them pillage the planet
fuelled by a fattening greed,
trees fall to the hatchet
chopping against the grain,
our spirits in a vacuum
sadly ignore the pain,
the end arrives, we all lose
I hope it comes around
Driven out
holding out
day by day survival
Castaways have silent lives
with the strength to rival you
Driving in my car
I used to be able to walk this far
now I turn on the light.
I used to be able to sleep at night
I'm cooking with microwaves
to warm up food not seen the soil
plugged into my TV
used to the lies they're telling me

I hope it comes around
driven out...
Hoping that we find,
more to life than meets the eye
can we escape the grind,
build a life that's more worthwhile
be rid of this empty p ride,
full of selfishness inside
bathe in a turning tide,
until then we all hide
I hope it comes around
driven out
(The Fixx)

"I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk? "

Kinda long, but thats one of the best lines in all of movie history . (Dirty harry)

and of course

"Bullets - my only weakness! How did you know? "
from harold and kumar :D
