No you can't use cunning to equip stuff that normally goes with strength. But as far as I know you only need about 18-21 strength to equip everything that a rogue ever wanted to equip.

Rogues also get a nice damage increase on backstabs, which probably makes them leap ahead of warriors in the DPS department. Throw assassin spec. on top of that and you have a sure winner.

-Combat tweaks (tweaks almost all spells/skills to make fighters and rogues stand up a bit more to mages)
-Advanced tactics (more options for tactics screen as well as bugfixes with ai)...

Since nobody has replied: Arcane Warrior seems to be one of the best specs for mage. It gives you awesome melee staying power. I'd go Arcane Warrior/Healer to be an awesome tank.
