In order for video games to affect your psyche, you need to have pre-existing issues. I have played:- GTA: Vice City, and I have never carjacked anyone
- Baldur's Gate 2, and I don't have a compulsion to stab anyone
- Ghost Recon, and I don't feel the urge to shoot anyone
The list can go on and on. In many Western cultures, most notably the US and Canada, a lot of people put their kids on "cruise control" parenting. If your child has pre-existing mental problems, what are they doing with these games? The parents have to step in. The games aren't going to go away: society just needs to smarten up about them, and their appropriateness. If games were treated the same way as movies, we wouldn't be having these debates.
