Possibly I'm one of the few here on Ironworks who are actually familiar with Elliott Smith's work, but the lo-fi singer/songwriter behind brilliant records like
Either/Or and
XO has died last night at the age of 34. Exact details are still unknown, but it is believed he died in a hospital after a suicide attempt, tragically drawing another comparison with his big source of musical inspiration Nick Drake.
He's best known for his surprising Oscar nomination for his work for the Good Will Hunting Soundtrack, with "Miss Misery" nominated in the Best Song Category - other well known songs and classics include
Waltz #2 and
Sweet Adeline.
May he rest in peace.
