I had to replace ours this past year. It developed a hole in the side... not exactly sure how, but water poured out by the gallon when we used the sink.
Replacement was actually pretty easy (and pretty inexpensive), but I was fortunate enough to find the exact same model. You might be able to do the same thing... a different model may mean different hookups and such, which ups the complexity.
