Seems like we're sending a ridiculously small amount of money, judging by the sheer size of the the disaster. Although we typically comit more money later. Anyway, read for yourself:

Musharraf asks for help

Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf has asked the world for help following the devastating earthquake in Kashmir. Mr Musharraf said Pakistan has enough manpower, but that there is a need for money and aid supplies such as medicine, tents and transport helicopters.

World leaders have expressed dismay at the disaster that has hit Pakistan, and also neighbouring India and Afghanistan. United States President George W Bush said the first aid supplies were underway. The Netherlands has pledged one million euros in aid to the victims and the European Commission is to release three million euros for immediate relief.

Since Saturday's earthquake, the area has experienced dozens of after-shocks.

According to the latest figures, 19,000 people have died in Pakistan and more than 42,000 have been injured. The local government in the Pakistani-controlled part of Kashmir estimates the number of dead at 30,000. In the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir, the official death toll is close to 600.
