no, not with true sight prior going upstair, it's when somebody got backstab, cast detect invisibility. with a lower level party, always format your party lineup that the weaker memembers are in the back or surrounded by lower AC/higher hps memembers.

The only thing that I have found offers a valid protection for weak mages in this (and some other anti-party fights) is IMHO Stoneskin which every self-respecting mage should get up as soon as he smells the slightest idea of conflict. I think that is roleplayingly okay as I consider it only normal for a low HP mage to be concerned with exactly this flaw and therefore casting a rather simple spell to calm himself down.
I think stoneskin at all times (well, as frequent as possible at least) is totally valid and really roleplaying -- this is a DANGEROUS realm, where battle can occur at any moment...a mage should learn that even in the Irenicus' dungeon! especially when you go unstairs/downstairs or open any door...you should be prepared!!! another thing is...in this particular case, we should spot them before the theif approach us...my mage always cast stoneskin immediately when spotting hostile creatures (if the stoneskin not on at the moment that is)...that's roleplaying...that's how low hp mages who cannot wear decent armor survive!
