you might condiser getting a good thief...Imoen sucks with traps, but use her if you must.
One spike trap instantly wiped out the exteremely annoying baddie that appears in the upper left hand corner. A few regular ones had the 6 armed one to "near death". Keep lowering their defenses with magic.
