Actually, you can get Renal's pair in Chapter 2.

If you side with Bodhi, Renal Bloodscalp disappears and you don't get the chance to kill him (in Chapter 2, that is). If you kill him after siding with Aran Linvail (or before you've made your choice), Arkanis Gath shows up, and, well...

However, if you Feeblemind Renal and all of the other shadows thieves on the second floor of the guild, you can kill him with no problems, and,
Voila!
An extra pair of Boots of Speed for you. [img]smile.gif[/img]
Casting Feeblemind on him will not turn him nor his defenders hostile, BTW.

I hope you're happy! You and your bloody save-or-bla spells...
