Stoneskin and protection from magic weapons are handy but the only time a contingency comes into play for me is when i'm helpless (held, unconscious etc.) and these protections usually wear off before my sorc gets his act together. What i need is a good summons spell to keep whatever is killing me (usually lichs and demons in chapter 2) occupied until i wake up. This is where simularum was great as you still had most of the skills, spells and items of your character. It was like they never went down.
