Depending on who you have in your party, you can get to around third level with four characters on Hard or Insane difficulty without leaving Easthaven.

If you have a Bard (and they're good in this game) have that character talk to the fisherman that's daydreaming as well as the siren. This produces more points than resolving the issue normally.

If you talk to the drunk, have someone like your Bard or a Mage speak to them, and you can talk the guy away from the booze.

If you have a Druid, have them talk to the Ogre in Kuldahar Pass, and they'll suggest a cure for his headache (though this is one you can do if you talk to Arundel immediately again during your first meeting).

The other thing to do is have only one character until you get to Kuldahar, then import them into one game. Or edit them with Dalekeeper.
