Carthiriel,

Welcome, again. Nice to see you making yourself at home!

SirWillow is serving up the straight scoop: Virtually everything that matters about the game, including available resolution, game controls, game balance (e.g., MUCH more capable bards and druids), treasure highlighting, and other features too numerous to mention are implemented by HoW. (Don't even think of playing a bard or druid without this upgrade, unless you are into masochism.)

You can see other threads for details; but to sum it up: It is worth buying the IWD:HoW collection, even if you end up with an extra copy of IWD, just to get the HoW overlay! I haven't even entered the HoW areas, yet; but have immensely enjoyed the features HoW adds.

Speaking as someone who has played both ways, I can confidently say that, "You'll enjoy IWD without HoW; but if you ever get HoW; you'll kick yourself for being so patient."

Party On!
