You must be playing without HoW then...
In th original IWD the opposition school for conjurer was divination... which made conjurer the best specialist because divination spells are actually least useful (and those which are can be used by the bard)...
In HoW the opposition schools changed and its now invocation for a conjurer...
Note: if you install HoW after having some invocation spells memorized, those spells will not disappear, though you wont be able to memorize new ones (thats what the manual and/or readme.txt says at least... I havent checked it myself)
